NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — An indoor trampoline park that was planned for Northborough may instead end up moving to Westborough.
David O'Connor of Sky Zone Sports originally planned to open a 36,000-square-foot facility on 30 Forbes Rd. containing 17,000 square feet of trampoline space. Similar to Sky Zone locations in Boston and Everett, the facility would be aimed primarily at kids age 6-19 and offer sports like dodgeball and basketball.
Though the Northborough Zoning Board of Appeals approved O'Connor's special variance in November, he said he began to have second thoughts after his landlord tried to renegotiate what was originally "a very, very good deal."
"Long story short, when it came time to sign the lease in Northborough [...] they wanted to renegotiate some of the terms," O'Connor said. After that, he added, the good deal he was expecting became "just another lease, no better or worse than any other lease."
While he is looking into several locations in the area, O'Connor said that the most likely one is in the Speedway Plaza on Route 9. The former BJ's Wholesale Club location—now occupied by the Burlington Coat Factory—still has about 35,000 square feet of space available.
O'Connor said he still has to go before the Westborough Planning Board to get a special permit from the town.
"It's nowhere near a done deal," O'Connor said. "If things don't go well, Northborough is still on the table."
