WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — Every year the Boston Business Journal ranks the healthiest employers based programs offered, and Westborough's Chitika has been named one of five finalists for the 2013 title.
Chitika, an online advertisement and analytics firm, offers "perks" to employees, according to a news release.
These perks include daily catered lunches with healthy options, a fully stocked kitchen with protein shakes, granola, fresh juice and an assortment of fruits, treadmill work stations, space for stretching and Yoga, hammocks for relaxation, an on-site gym, walking trails and sponsored team sports.
"Being recognized among top companies in downtown Boston and Massachusetts for our health and wellness program is a huge honor for us," said company representative Jennie Freedman.
The company, which dubs itself "the Google of MetroWest" also has a practice of holding "standing meetings."
The goal is to keep its workers "out of their chairs and on top of their game," according to the release.
"Work smart, move fast and have fun," said CEO Venkat Kolluri, commenting on the purpose for the format. "When you are standing up, you are on your best game; your switch is turned on."
Chitika has also reported the use of fewer sick days by employees due to the practices, said the release.
"With health-care costs rising, a healthy workforce is more important than ever," said Boston Business Journal Publisher Chris McIntosh in the release. "The award and event will spotlight what area companies are doing to keep their workers off the sick rolls. And as we will report, these efforts go beyond keeping employees trim and healthy — they also trim quite a bit off the bottom line."
Chitika as a company is hoping to continue its growth and expand its health and wellness practices, according to the release. The company is actively hiring software engineers, web developers and project managers.
The award ceremony will be held on March 28 at the Boston Commons.
