WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — Thursday's impending storm will create an appropriate setting as Hastings Elementary School will host its annual Winter Festival on Saturday, Feb. 8.
This year's event is the sixth installment and features games, crafts, food, a silent auction and basket raffle, according to a news release.
Vanessa Aires, who helped organize the event, said as long as the weather complies, the event should be a hit.
"It should be an exciting, great event," she said. "We just need the snow to clear."
Aires said the goal every year is for at least 500 people, and 2013's should be no different.
She said a big draw this year will be a magician, who will perform a chair suspension as part of his show.
"I, for one, can't wait," she said.
Other planned activities include face painting, a football toss, toilet paper toss, a bounce house, sand art and a photo booth.
Raffle prizes and auction titles will include a Kindle Fire and Red Sox tickets, but also unique items like "vice principal for a day" and lunch with your favorite teacher.
"The teachers do a great thing offering their time," Aires said, commenting on the prizes.
"[The vice principal winner] gets to assist the principal for a day in greeting students as they come into school, and throughout the day they might get to help out in the office or go on the intercom throughout the day making announcements."
Tickets for the event will be $5 per person, with a family cap of $20. All proceeds will go to Hastings's enrichment programs and school field trips, according to a news release.
