WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — A total of 52 kids participated in Westborough K of C's annual free-throw challenge, a number that event coordinator Herman Millet said was up from 2012.

"We're very pleased," he said. "It's a great turnout from the youth in the town."

The contest, held at the Gibbons Middle School gym, was broken up by age group and gender. The participants, all between the ages of 10 and 14, were given three practice shots and then 15 free throws.

The shooter who made the highest percentage of the 15 was the winner for the age group, rewarded with a trophy and an opportunity to participate in the upcoming district competition.

Millet said the district winners will advance to regionals at Nichols College in March, the winners again advancing to the state competition likely to be held at The College of The Holy Cross in Worcester.
