WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — A busy week in Westborough will begin with Monday's return of Dogs for Reading, and capped off with Rangers football's first Friday-night game under the lights.
All of the Westborough sports teams have a busy week, with games every day but Wednesday. Yom Kippur services will be held throughout town Tuesday evening through Wednesday night, and several local power companies are hosting a solar energy conference at the Double Tree Hotel on Thursday.
Below is a list of the week's events.
Monday, Sept. 24
Cross country, 3:30 p.m. - Westborough High hosts Nashoba at Veteran's Freedom Park for its first home meet.
Field hockey, 3:30 p.m. - Westborough High goes on the road to face Nashoba with the hope of extending its two-game winning streak.
Boys soccer, 3:30 p.m. - Westborough High Rangers boys soccer travels to face Groton.
Girls soccer, 3:30 p.m. - Westborough High Rangers girls soccer hosts Groton.
Volleyball, 5:15 p.m. - Westborough High will look to stay undefeated when it hosts Westford.
Paws for READing begins, 5:15 p.m. - A program that pairs emergent readers with therapeutic reading dogs returns to the library Monday. The program will be held in the Children's Library on the first floor.
Finance Committee meeting, 7 p.m. - The committee will meet in the Selectmen's meeting room. They will review the special Town Meeting warrant.
Tuesday, Sept. 25
Diabetes Support Group, 2 to 4 p.m. - The meeting at the Northborough Senior Center is open to all those who are living with diabetes. Family, friends, and caregivers are welcome as well. Its a gathering of people who want to know more about managing their diabetes and controlling their blood sugar to prevent complications. People with diabetes share ideas that work for them.
Golf, 3:30 p.m. - Hudson travels to Westborough High to take on the Rangers at Westborough Country Club.
Board of Selectmen Meeting, 6 p.m. - The board will meet at the Town Hall to discuss several ongoing issues, including the fall Town Meeting warrant. The board will also discuss the donations of multiple properties to the Habitat for Humanity Project.
Recreation Commission meeting, 7 p.m. - The commission will meet at the recreation office to discuss fall programs. They will also discuss the impact of EEE on recreational activities.
Yom Kippur Evening Services, 6:30 to 10 p.m. - Kol Nidrei will be at Westborough's Beth Tikvah Synagogue, followed by a rabbi study session from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 26
Yom Kippur Services, 9:30 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. - Beth Tikvah Synagogue's Yom Kippur services includes a morning service and a children's service. There will be a sermon, torah reading and a pot luck to close out the day.
Westborough Garden Club meeting, 7 p.m. - The club will hold its monthly meeting at the Westborough Senior Center. The quest speaker will be Sara Dipalermo, a Wrentham, Mass., native with more than 19 years of experience in the industry.
Westborough Board of Trustees meeting, 7:15 p.m. - The Board of Trustees will meet at the library administration area to discuss several topics including the ongoing HVAC renovations.
UNO Trivia Night, 8 to 10 p.m. - Teams of up to six are invited to compete in trivia night at the 229 Turnpike Road Uno Chicago Grill. The event is free and prizes will be given to the winning teams.
Thursday, Sept. 27
Solar Energy Conference, 7:30 to 10 a.m. - GeoGenix and other leading energy firms in Massachusetts will host a free energy conference for businesses and municipalities at which they will discuss how to lower energy costs through solar and energy efficiency. The conference will take place on Sept. 27 at the Double Tree Hotel at 5400 Computer Drive. Registration is available online.
Golf, 3:30 p.m. - The Westborough High Rangers host Hudson at Westborough CC.
Girls soccer, 3:30 p.m. - Marlborough travels to Westborough High to take on the Rangers.
Boys soccer, 3:30 p.m. - Westborough High travels to Marlborough.
Friday, Sept. 28
September Birthday Lunch, noon - Celebrating a birthday this month? Your lunch will be paid for by the Friend of the Senior Center. All are welcome to help celebrate. Birthday cake and ice cream are provided through the generosity of the Avidia Bank. Transportation is available.
Field hockey, 3:30 p.m. - Westborough High Rangers field hockey will host Hudson.
Volleyball, 5:15 p.m. - The Westborough High Rangers will make the trip out to Hingham to take on Notre Dame Academy.
Football, 7 p.m. - Westborough High heads back out on the road and will play its first Friday night game under the lights at Milford.
