What's Happening In Westborough This Week

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — The lights will be shining this week in Westborough. 

The "Week of Lights" is a biennial event during which temporary lights are set up at Joseph R. Mewhiney field to give Westborough High sports teams the experience of playing home night games. Games will include girls and boys soccer, field hockey and Friday night football, scheduled for 7 p.m.

Monday, Oct. 22

Volleyball: 5:15 p.m. Westborough High hosts powerhouse non-conference opponent Barnstable (12-0, ranked No. 1 in state) in the WHS gym. 

Girls Soccer: 7 p.m. Westborough High girls soccer plays the first "Week of Lights" game when it hosts Fitchburg, with a chance to clinch the Mid-Wach B conference crown. 

Tuesday, Oct. 23

Golf: 9 a.m. Westborough High competes in the District E Championships at Gardner Golf Course. 

Bookbabies: 10:30 a.m. Story time for toddlers ages 1 and 2 at the Westborough Public Library. 

Volleyball: 5:15 p.m. Westborough High hits the road to face a strong opponent in Algonquin. 

Boys Soccer: 7 p.m. Westborough High boys soccer plays its "Week of Lights" game against Fitchburg.

Westborough Crew 100 Open House: 7 p.m. Venture Crew 100 open house at the Forbes Community House, 9 E. Main St. Venture Crew 100 is a group that does backpacking, rock climbing, sailing, rafting, snowshoeing, skiing and canoeing. Anyone ages 14-20 can join. 

Wednesday, Oct. 24

Confronting Job Loss: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. A series of interactive, supportive and educational coaching groups and workshops led by a certified life coach with more than 20 years of experience in the helping professions. Participants will acquire new skills and strategies for effectively managing life transitions and creating positive changes in their lives. At the JCC, 45 Oak St.

SWRT Open House: 6 to 9 p.m. The Ski Ward Race Team holds an open house at Boston Ski and Tennis in Westborough's Bay State Commons. Learn more about the group and sign up for the 2012-13 season.

Field Hockey: 7 p.m. Westborough High field hockey plays its "Week of Lights" game against Fitchburg.

Thursday, Oct. 25

Wine Adventures With Abe: 5 to 8 p.m. A tasting event at Julio's Liquors (140 Turnpike Road) showcases high-quality wines, cars and music. The featured wines are from 90+ Cellars, a Boston-based company that created its own brand by buying only excess finished wines that received a gold medal or a 90-plus rating from the wine industry.

Girls Soccer: 3:30 p.m. Westborough High goes on the road to face non-conference opponent Nipmuc.

Boys Soccer: 3:30 p.m. Westborough High hits the road to take on neighboring St. John's in a must-win game.  

Volleyball: 6:45 p.m. Westborough High hosts Wachusett in a late-starting game.

Friday, Oct. 26

Field Hockey: 3:30 p.m. Westborough High hosts North Middlesex at Joseph R. Mewhiney Field. 

Football: 7 p.m. The "Week of Lights" finale pits Westborough (0-6) against Wachusett (4-2) in the Rangers' first Friday night game in two years at Joseph R. Mewhiney Field.
