WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — Brian Coutinho didn't let a debilitating bout of Lyme disease slow him down in 2012, earning the rank of Eagle Scout.

Coutinho, a member of Westborough's Troop 100, received the honor at a Court of Honor Council at St. Stephen's Church in Westborough in August.

Coutinho is described as a "a skilled enthusiast for outdoor activities including hiking and camping," according to a news release.

Utilizing those interests, Coutinho chose to help clean up the hiking trail adjacent to Indian Pond. Coutinho extended the path, while removing invasive plants. The trail, owned by the Westborough Community Land Trust, is off Maynard Street in Westborough.

Coutinho is a senior at the Victor School in Acton, and is considering several college options, said the release. His favorite areas of study are mathematics, theology and philosophy.
