SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass. — Young dancers from Northborough, Southborough and Shrewsbury earned accolades for their performances at the Headliners Regional Competition in Worcester.
The children performed with the Rhythm Dance Company in Westborough, which brought a total of 50 solos, duos and trios to the event. All told, 14 entrants made the Top 10 in their division, while the Rhythm Dance Company brought home 17 Elite Gold Medals, 21 Gold Medals and 12 High Silvers.
Title winners were chosen based on overall performance and quality in the competition held Jan. 25 to 27.
Casey Peris, a 12-year-old from Shrewsbury, won an Elite Gold and was named Junior Miss Headliner for her solo, "Unlike Me." Also from Shrewsbury was Kendra Lippert, who won an Elite Gold and first place overall with her solo, "Turn to Stone." Lippert was also named Teen Miss Headliner for the 13-year-old division.
Naomi Greenspan, a 14-year-old from Northborough, won an Elite Gold and placed second overall in the Teen Soloist Division with "I'm Through." She was named Teen Miss Headliner for the 14- and 15-year-old division.
"Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," a routine performed by Grace Luiso, 8, of Southborough, and Morgan Shapiro, 7, of Shrewsbury, won an Elite Gold medal and first place overall in the Child Duo/Trio Division. The two girls also won a Judge's Award for "Most Entertaining."
All of the dance numbers were choreographed by Rythm Dance Company owner Nicole Kelley.
Rhythm Dance Company will compete at five additional regional competitions this season, finishing at the Starpower National Competition at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut in June. The company will also hold a recital on Saturday, June 1, at Worcester State College.
