WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — Over the past weekend, Westborough's Class of 1977 gathered at the Westborough Knights of Columbus to celebrate a 35th reunion.
Seventy-five classmates returned to reminisce with those they paced the hallways and sat through morning announcements with more than three decades prior.
"I haven't seen so many sincere smiles in one room in a long time," said Marilyn Ruseckas, who now lives in Warren, Vermont, where she operates her own studio gallery. "That was a lot of fun."
Former Westborough resident Eugene Cantera, who attended the event organized by fellow classmate Bill Judge and the reunion committee, posted a blog about his experience. He noted that he was nervous to see those from his former school.
"I don't get back to Westborough often and when I do, it's usually for short family visits," wrote Cantera on his blog.
"In fact, I suggested name tags — big name tags."
Cantera said Judge took his idea, and even included high school pictures on them. Cantera, who now resides in Texas as a teacher at the Dallas School of Music said the event was a great success. An exchange student, Jose Cazal, made the trip from Brazil, Cynthia Day came from her new coffee farm in Panama and Magali Castro from Amsterdam.
"The entire evening was like a giant hug for me," Cantera said, "and there were more than a few folks who mentioned how blessed we've been to have grown up in Westborough and to have shared so many fun and funny experiences together."
Cantera said he wants to organize a golf event at the Westborough Country Club as part of the 40th reunion.
