To the editor:
As a veteran, I am proud to support Representative Dykema in her bid for re-election.
Rep. Dykema was instrumental in the writing of The Valor Act, which gives support to transitioning and troubled veterans.
She has been a strong supporter of veterans projects throughout her district and the surrounding towns. This year after conversations with veterans advocates in the local area, she organized what has become The MetroWest Veterans Consortium, a group of Veterans Service Officers and advocates from a 13-town area.
At the first meeting we heard from Veterans Affairs Secretary Coleman Nee and his staff on what his office is doing to reach out to veterans in need and to help them through the system. This is information that could be taken back to our local organizations.
I had the pleasure of working with the Natick Moving Wall committee last year and told Rep. Dykema about our activities. I wasn't surprised when she attended one of the ceremonies that was held at The Wall. Members of the committee thanked me for introducing them to someone that they recognize as a strong advocate for veterans.
Rep. Dykema was the force behind having the Massachusetts Iraq and Afghanistan Fallen Heroes Memorial come to Holliston. Her efforts allowed the town to put this together in a very short time period to ensure a successful opening ceremony and week-long display.
Rep. Dykema understands the priorities of our veterans and our communities. That is why I will be proud to vote for her on Nov. 6.
