WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – There will be a Special Voter Registration session on Wednesday, April 25, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Town Clerk's Office. This is for anyone who is not a registered voter in Westborough, has moved within Westborough, is a U.S. citizen, and will be 18 years old by May 15.

This session is being held prior to the Debt Exclusion Election to be held on May 15 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at three polling locations. Approval of the debt exclusion will pave the way for the town to borrow funds for to construct a new, $11 million fire station.

Residents at Town Meeting on March 17 overwhelming approved borrowing funds for the building, but under state tax law, the measure must now be brought to the ballot.

The ballot question will ask that the town be exempt under certain lines of the Massachusetts tax code, known as Proposition 2 ½, for purposes of getting a bond to pay for construction of the station.

Voters can register at any time, however, April 25 is the cut-off for the May 15, 2012 election.

For more information, call the town clerk's office at 508-366-3020. Town Clerk hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday 7:30 a.m. to noon.
