WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – Carol S. Taylor, of Westborough, died Jan. 21 at her home. She was 89.
Taylor was born in Toledo, Ohio to S. Robert and Bertha Douglas Swiss. Educated in the Toledo schools, she earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Michigan State University.
During World War II, she served in the U.S. Navy, attaining the rank of specialist first class. She was married to Ret. Col. Charles E. Taylor, who predeceased her. Taylor was a homemaker and a volunteer. She read to the blind, served as a tutor in schools and volunteered at hospitals.
She was a resident of Westborough for 10 years, previously living in Somerville, Mass., Florida, Virginia and several countries.
Taylor is survived by two daughters, Jane P. Taylor, of West Brookfield, Mass., and Marcia D. Taylor, of North Providence, R.I.; two grandchildren; and a large extended family.
There will be a celebration of her life from 2-4 p.m. Feb. 2 at The Willows in Westborough. Burial will take place at V.A. National Cemetery in Bourne, Mass., at a later date. Westborough Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
