WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — Citizens Bank confiscated $1,400 in $100 bills from a Westborough resident Monday, but a U.S. Secret Service investigation deemed them legitimate.
Westborough police said they contacted the Secret Service, which investigates counterfeit currency, after the 43-year-old man reported the incident. The bank also notified the Secret Service.
Police said the man had cashed his paycheck at the 70 E. Main Street Sovereign Bank, and was depositing the bills in his other account at Citizens Bank. Four $100 bills were not confiscated, but the other 14 were questioned because they were older bills, said police.
Police said the Secret Service will return the bills to the resident.
