WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — Two men were arrested just before 8 p.m., Wednesday, after Detective Steven Tompkins witnessed them stealing from the St. Vincent De Paul donation box at 53 E. Main St.
Amaro Varela, 36, was witnessed standing beside a minivan loaded with bags, while Eliseu Alfonso was seen inside the box, handing the bags through the opening in the side.
Police said Alfonso was also "found" at the same location on Sept. 25.
The two men, both from Brockton, were arrested and charged with larceny of over $250. They were arraigned at Westborough District Court on Thursday morning. Both were held on $500 cash bail, with the stipulation that neither go near 53 E. Main Street.
They are due back in court for a pretrial hearing on Nov. 14.
