MIDDLEBOROUGH, Mass. — A 51-year-old Westborough man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries late Thursday following a two-car collision on Route 495 that took the life of a motorist from Carver, State Police reported.
George Victoria, 50, of Carver, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Westborough resident was transported to Tobey Hospital in Wareham. Police have not released his name.
State Police responded to the two-car crash north of Exit 2 in Middleborough at 11:10 p.m. They said a preliminary investigation by Trooper Adam LeBlanc found that both vehicles were traveling southbound on 495 when Victoria's vehicle, a 2004 Ford F-250, left the road and hit a tree.
Police said they have not determined why Victoria's car left the road, whether the two vehicles collided, and what role the Westborough man's vehicle played in the collision. The crash remains under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Middleborough Fire Department and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. The left lane of Route 495 southbound was closed for approximately 2½ hours during the rescue operation and investigation.
