Just 769 Westborough Votes Cast In State Primary

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — The Massachusetts State Primary Thursday brought a turnout of only  6.9 percent of registered voters in Westborough. 

Out of 11,178 registered voters, just 769 votes were cast. This is down more than 50 percent from the 2010 gubernatorial election primary that saw 1,629 total votes. 

There were three contested seats in this year's primary. Incumbent U.S. Rep. James P. McGovern won the race for Democratic congressman, 430-42 over William Feegbeh.

In the race for the 4th Middlesex District state representative, Democrat Danielle Gregoire of Marlborough beat out Joseph Paul Richard Collins, also of Marlborough, 121-58 for the 4th District.

Incumbent councillor Marilyn M. Pettito Devaney of the 3rd District beat Harry Margolis of Brookline, 233-111.

Of the votes cast in town, 489 cast Democratic ballots while 279 cast Republican ballots.
