WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — After gaining approval at Westborough's October Town Meeting, the $600,000 expenditure for the design of the town's new fire house was also approved by the Board of Selectmen.
The contract went out through a bidding process and was awarded to Jacunski Humes. The contract accounts for 5.5 percent of the project's budget.
"They've given us a very competitive price to do this," Town Manager Jim Malloy said at Tuesday's Board of Selectmen meeting. "Typically you'll see architectural costs run about 10 percent."
Board members and Malloy expressed gratitude to the town for approving the plan. It has been on 10 previous Town Meeting warrants without gaining approval.
"The goal here is to get design under way so it can be in construction next summer," Malloy said.
