WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – The Worcester Academy Middle School Math Team finished 3rd at the Regional MATHCOUNTS Competition and qualified for the State Competition scheduled for March 3 in Boston.
Team members include Worcester Academy 8thgraders Jesse Wu of Westborough and Urvi Savant of Shrewsbury, and 7thGraders Sahith Nallapareddy of Grafton and Varun Nair of Bolton.
This is the fourth time in five years that Worcester Academy has qualified for MATHCOUNTS state competition.
WA Math Team Coach Gilles Legault said the math team would be looking to improve on its 2011 finish. Legault also praised the strong performances of the team's alternates, who also competed in MATHCOUNTS competition recently.
The alternates include 6th grader Snigdha Allaparthi of Westborough.
