This Brief Routine May Lift Your Spirits, Sharpen Focus: Study A better mood may be closer than you think, with a small study suggesting that 10 minutes could make a difference. Researchers at the University of Tsukuba in Japan found that a brief session of very slow running improved mood and performance on a mental task compared with sitting quietly. The findings, published in Imaging Neuroscience, suggest that even gentle running may offer immediate benefits for healthy young adults.  Researchers recruited 24 participants: 13 men and 11 women.
